HUDSON — Soccer coach and chemistry teacher Juan Madrid de la Rosa has made an impact in the classroom and on the pitch at Hudson High School.
Madrid has taught chemistry at Hudson High for three years and coached the junior varsity boys soccer team for two seasons. He said his passion for the sport motivated him to coach.
“I wanted to coach soccer because of my passion for the sport,” Madrid said.
In his free time, Madrid enjoys watching television shows and movies, as well as following soccer. He attended a university in Colombia for five years, where he studied chemical engineering.
Adjusting to life in the United States was challenging at first, Madrid said.
“It was hard to settle in because of my accent, and some students could not understand me,” he said. “But slowly I improved my accent and got used to the community.”
Madrid said he appreciates the welcoming atmosphere at Hudson High and believes the school community is supportive.
“I would love to keep coaching and help the kids improve,” Madrid said.
