HUDSON —
Whether in the classroom or the dance studio, ELD teacher Dana Brett shares her passion for the arts with Hudson High School students and staff.
Hired in August, Brett works as an ELD teacher and also teaches dance and musical theater with KG, the drama teacher, twice a month during ARC. She previously taught in high schools in Massachusetts and across the country.
Brett stands out for her innovative approach to teaching, using the arts, including music and movement, to engage students and support self-expression.
“I always try to do my best and give them a lot of love, try to help them as much as I can,” Brett said.
She began her teaching career after college and has held multiple roles within school communities.
Balancing full-time teaching with evening dance classes at the Acton-Boxborough Dance Center is demanding, but Brett said the rewards make the effort worthwhile.
“I feel that the performing arts lends itself beautifully to education. What could be better for an ELD student…music, art and dance to bring English language learning to life?” Brett said.
A lifelong dancer, Brett specializes in ballet, jazz, theater dance and contemporary styles. She frequently incorporates movement and expression into her lessons.
“It’s a lifelong study, but it’s my passion,” Brett said.
She encourages English learner students to remain open to new opportunities and seek as much exposure as possible.
As a child, Brett appeared on the television program Sesame Street, an experience that helped shape her love of the performing arts.
“I think ELD education and the performing arts are the best thing in the world. I am elated to have landed here at Hudson High,” Brett said.
