Our Story

The Big Red is the product of the Hudson High School Journalism class. We regularly publish new content on the website. This award-winning publication began in 2006.

Our current journalism students for the 2018-2019 school year include editor Veronica Mildish, as well as staff reporters Zahara Abdullah, Maddie Cirillo, Triniti Classen, Elyse Frechette, Ethan Krolikowski, Liana Melecio and Camilla Miranda.

Previous Highlights

Dakota Antelman, the former editor, was chosen to be part of the Student Critics program at the Hanover Theatre. He received tickets to six of their Broadway shows. Before the show, he attended a workshop with a professional critic to learn about writing reviews. Then he submitted his reviews to the Hanover Theatre.

Our Awards

In March of 2015, editor Alex Schley was named the Massachusetts Journalist of the Year.

In 2013, she won a Silver Key Scholastic Writing award for her editorial on the new concussion policy for athletes.

In May 2015, Dakota Antelman won an award from the New England Scholastic Press Association for an article on the girls’ hockey team. He also won a Silver Key Scholastic Writing award for an editorial that he wrote.

In May 2015, Brian Twomey won an award from the New England Scholastic Press Association for his sports profile of Cressey, a local business that trains professional baseball players.

Finally, both Alex Schley and Dakota Antelman were chosen to attend the New England High School Journalism Collaborative in June 2015. They made it through 2 rounds of interviews before being chosen. This free camp gave them the opportunity to create a newspaper working with the professionals at the Boston Globe.
