HUDSON – “Do we have all the beans?”
Addressing the class while she takes attendance with her iconic side braid, new biology teacher Jean Ganek has found a way to connect with the HHS community in just a few months.
As a teenager, Ganek was always drawn to the environmental and natural aspects of the world.
“I like that science or biology is something you can see when you look around. Like body systems, trees, photosynthesis, and carbon compounds,” said Ganek.
She has always wanted to be a teacher as she enjoyed looking after those younger than her, even in her high school years.
“I grew up teaching summer camps and working at writing centers so teaching felt like a natural fit,” said Ganek.
So far she has made many accomplishments in terms of connecting with the HHS community such as her fellow science teachers and all her students.
“I have attended some of the football and soccer games with colleagues which has been fun! It has been great getting to see some of my students out on the field!” said Ganek.
This isn’t the first community she has been a part of; she previously worked at Bellingham high school as well as Springfield high school.
“The students I had were all awesome and we had a wonderful science department. I enjoyed my time there,” she said.
However, she is thrilled to have a new start here at Hudson High and has so far been impressed with the curriculum, something that caught her eye when looking into the school.
“When I took a look at what the school had to offer I was really interested in the Phenomenon based curriculum,” said Ganek.
She loves her students, or as she likes to call them kiddos or beans, and loves being able to see them make connections. Additionally she has felt very welcomed by her colleagues.
“I really like my kiddos this year. And I’ve really appreciated the support from my colleagues when I’ve had questions,” she said.
Outside of school Ganek normally spends her time doing a variety of activities around the house with her cats, such as crocheting, cooking, baking and caring for her house plants.
Equally important, she is excited for her new chapter in Hudson.
“I am happy to have found a new home!” said Ganek.
