The Lake of Dreams by Kim Edwards is a fictional novel about a twenty-nine-year-old American named Lucy Jarrett who lives in Japan with her friend Yoshi . Her mother, whom she has not seen in years, gets into an accident. This worries and scares Lucy and brings her back home to The Lake of Dreams. She discovers how much her home has changed and how her family has been changed because of her father’s death.
I would recommend this book but it has a very slow start and doesn’t pick up until over halfway through the book. In the beginning all that happens is Lucy debating whether to go home to see her mother. It is detailed, but the beginning has very little plot.
Once it picks up, and Lucy finds the lock, the story becomes suspenseful and very detailed. It is a unique plot and interesting. The story is different from anything I have read. Overall, the book is okay, and I would recommend it to someone who won’t mind reading through the boring beginning.
