HUDSON–Just three years ago, the boys varsity lacrosse team failed to win a single game. Now, the co-op program earned their best record ever, capping off the regular season at 15-1, capturing the league championship, and earning their first ever playoff appearance.
While players believed they could take a step forward this year, few expected such a successful season.
“I expected us to improve from last year, but I didn’t expect this big of a difference,” said Freshman Brayden Diodato.
For the players, they entered the season with a new mindset.
“Coach Murphy made us put ‘No Excuses’ on the back of our shirt, so we don’t have an excuse to lose,” said senior Landon Philips, describing one of the biggest messages emphasized by the coaching staff this season.
This helped shape a team built on effort, discipline, and proving themselves against strong competition. Even though the team was made up of multiple different mascots, every one of them embraced being a hawk and used it as motivation during the spring season.
“Remember the Hawk,” said junior Owen Pike. “Basically, just to show the other teams that we’re not a crappy team anymore.”
The confidence and chemistry built throughout the season led to one of the biggest wins in program history: defeating Littleton on their home turf to secure the league championship.
When asked about his favorite memory this season,
“Oh, definitely last night, winning the League Championship felt great. Especially since we never beat Littleton on their home turf until last night.” said Philips.
Although the team lost in the round of 32, the season had already become one of the greatest turnaround stories the program has seen.
When asked about what winning a championship would mean to this group,
“It would mean a lot, especially from where we came from, from the bottom, and the fact that we climbed to the top.” Diodato said.
From a winless season three years ago to league champions today, the Hawks have completely rewrote the story of their program.
