Hudson- As spring comes and goes, the same goes for spring sports, but they prepare themselves for their postseasons, and their playoffs are right around the corner.
This year at HHS, seven teams were competing in the spring and putting in work all season to accomplish great feats and qualify for the playoffs.
In the MIAA, the first 32 teams in every division qualify for the playoffs. For Example, the Boys’ Baseball team is 18th as of May 22nd in Division 3 of MIAA Baseball, which slots them in the playoffs.
Boys’ Baseball:
Boys’ Baseball is 11-7 and is having itself a year, at the top of their league ahead of teams like Oakmont, Marlboro, and Nashoba, to end the regular season.
Hudson has most recently played Marlboro High School in Hudson on Monday, May 25th, in a 13-2 win highlighted by a home run from junior Blake Freitas.
The team sits at the 18th seed in the MIAA Division 3 Baseball Power Rankings as of May 22nd, which is in the playoffs.
Boys’ Lacrosse:
The boys’ team is having a historic season, winning their matchup on May 18th in Littleton, beating them for their first-ever league title.
The team is ranked 28th in the MIAA Boys’ Lax Power Rankings 3rd Division as of May 22nd, putting the boys into the playoffs after disappointing seasons, where they were defeated in one year.
Boys’ Track and Field:
The Boys’ team is 4-2 and ended their regular season off with a bang, beating Groton-Dunstable this Wednesday (5/13) 77-72, coming down to the 4x400m relay.
The team had the MIAA District E Meet Saturday (5/16) at Auburn HS, and the team placed 3rd in the League Meet (5/21) after a close one last year, losing the league to Oakmont.
The team has multiple state-qualifying runners this season, including Team Captains Jason Blake, Thomas Downin, and Brayden Folan.
The team is also sending a freshman to the state meet, being Harrison Mello in the two-mile race, running a 10-minute and two-second race at Groton-Dunstable.
As of May 25th, one more member of the team made states. Freshman Henry Maver made the state meet through backfilling into the 400m hurdles.
Girls’ Track and Field:
The Girls’ team is sitting at 2-4 on the year, with their last regular season meet against Groton-Dunstable winning 78-66.
The team also had the MIAA District E Meet this Saturday (5/16) at Auburn HS, and had just placed 4th at the League Meet Thursday (5/21) at Lunenburg HS.
The Girls’ team is sending their junior captain Anna Iacobucci to the state meet in the 400m dash, running a minute and three seconds, and in the 4x100m team and in Discus.
The team is also sending freshman Melanie Person in the 800m race, running a 2:28.51, and the girls’ 4x100m team, including seniors Makenna McGuire, Alessandra Burnnett, junior Anna Iacobucci, and eighth grader Ashlyn Faherty.
Other notable qualifiers are the 4x400m and 4x800m teams, and sophomore Rylie Bossart in pole vault.
Girls’ Lacrosse:
The team sits at 10-5 on the year and has just recently qualified for the playoffs with their win over Northbridge on the 15th, 17–7.
This puts the team currently at the 22nd seed in the MIAA Division Three playoffs as of May 22nd.
Girls’ Tennis:
Girls’ Tennis sits at 10-8 on the year and is ranked 42nd in the MIAA Division 3 Girls’ Tennis Power Rankings. Unfortunately, the girls’ team did not qualify for the playoffs, and now their season comes to a close.
Girls’ Softball:
Girls’ Softball is 6-12 on the season as it closes, but reopens to the postseason. The team ranks 28th in MIAA’s Girls’ Softball Power Rankings, which would slot them into the playoffs.
