Coming this April and June thirty-five students will be taking a trip to the Amazon. Students on this trip will hike and canoe through the jungle and see the Canopy Walkway, but most of their time will be spent in the Juancho Playa village.
“That’s one of the main reasons I’m looking forward to going back,” said chemistry teacher Erin Cothran, “because I can see it through the kids’ eyes which is fabulous because I can see what it must have been like for me the first time I was there.”
Anyone going to the Amazon should expect to start planning a community project and gathering donations such as t-shirts to gift to the people of the Juancho Playa village.
Beware, apparently the most surprising part of this trip is the realization that we don’t need phones to survive! “I think they’re going to be blown away to know you can be completely entertained by sitting in a circle playing guitars and telling stories,” said history teacher June Murray. “They’re going to be shocked at how simple but fabulous everything is.” All explorers going on this trip better start preparing. Based on the activities they certainly won’t be bored.
Below are links to images from trips to the Amazon that June Murray organized and chaperoned and that Erin Cothran took as a student at Hudson High School. Be sure to click the circles in each picture to learn more about the trips.
