The world’s biggest stars will walk the red carpet at the 85th Annual Academy Awards hoping to walk away with a golden Oscar on February 24, 2013. Lincoln remains the front runner with 12 nominations, followed by Life of Pi with 11, along with Les Miserables and The Silver Linings Playbook with eight each.
Being nominated gives each film a legacy that will last forever, but winning the beloved Oscar will give the recipient a golden career for as long as he or she may live.
Best Picture: The Biggest and the Best
Who Will Win: Argo. Although the film, directed by Ben Affleck, received scathing reviews, its liberal message may be enough to sway votes from members of the Academy.(It also doesn’t hurt that Affleck starred, wrote and produced the film as well as leading it as director.)
Who Should Win: Zero Dark Thirty. The Kathryn Bigelow flick, which follows the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden and the women behind the operation, is easily one of the most ambitious of the nominated films. However the film does focus on torture, which is sure not to sit well with the liberal Academy.
Who I Want to Win: The Silver Linings Playbook. The touching comedy about mental illness tells the story of Pat Peoples, a man with bipolar disorder who is trying to recreate himself in order to reconnect with his ex-wife. You will laugh, you’ll cry, you will find a crazy desire to learn the entire soundtrack. Silver Linings is simply put, amazing!
Best Actress:
Who Will Win: Jennifer Lawrence will win the Oscar for two reasons, one being her versatility as an actress. As many know she played Katniss Everdeen in 2012 as well as costarring in X-Men: First Class and then as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence created a stunning portrayal of crazy behavior mixed with honesty. Lawrence has solidified herself as one of Hollywood’s most skilled thespians, and her career has only begun.
Who Should Win: Although Lawrence’s acting is superb, the red headed starlet Jessica Chastain from Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty should be given some sort of acknowledgement for her role as a CIA agent who was in charge of finding Osama Bin Laden. She is likely to be ignored. The Academy is liberal, and Zero Dark Thirty practically justifies the Republican Party’s stance on torture as an technique to gain information from potential terrorists.
Who I Want to Win: Jennifer Lawrence, the girl is on fire, duh!
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis… do the rest even matter?
Daniel Day-Lewis was the only interesting part of Lincoln. People are too afraid to say that the film wasn’t even that good! It was too long and filled with speeches that could be more entertaining to read than hear spoken in yet another close up!
