The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares is a story of four best friends and their first summer apart. Lena, Bridget, Tibby, and Carmen have been best friends, since they were born. They have spent every summer together forever. This year, Lena, a beautiful artist, is going to Greece to visit her grandparents; Bridget, a great athlete, is going to soccer camp; trouble-making Carmen is visiting her father in South Carolina; and Tibby, the filmmaker, is stuck at home in Bethesda, Maryland.
Carmen finds a pair of jeans that fits all of them despite their different body types. These pants travel with them on all of their trips.
The story was very interesting because it shows friendship and how it can keep people together despite dramatic differences. Bridget, for example, is very loud and outgoing, while Lena is shy and doesn’t like to talk to anyone but her friends. The pants become their symbol for friendship.
The book was very funny, and each character had their own sense of humor. For example, Tibby is always complaining about her little siblings. It is funny because she talks about how she had always wanted siblings and how now she hates them. She often refers to the bribes her parents gave her such as a phone, computer and camera to be nice to them.
I didn’t like that the story kept switching from person to person because it was confusing sometimes, and there would be points in the story when a certain character would not be in it for a while.
It is relatable because each character is so different and can remind you of friends or yourself. The characters experience trouble with siblings, a new step-family, and falling in love.
I liked how at the beginning of each chapter there was a quote from something that related to the story. The quotes are from other books, T.V. shows or just celebrities. Some are what a character from the book might say. Overall, it was a good book.
