This fall, Hudson fielded 9 Varsity programs in Golf, FH, Soccer, XC, Volleyball, Cheer, Dance and Football, along with 10 sub-varsity programs!
The fall teams tallied 43 League all-stars, 2 League Most Valuable Players, a League Championship, two State championship appearances, a back-to-back Final Four appearance, two sweet 16 appearances, a Team Sportsmanship award, a Coach of the Year honor, a MIAA Student of the Month for October, and a WBZ-TV MVP of the Week…and 5 out of 9 varsity teams advanced to the post season.
According to Athletic Direction Jess Winders, “There are two ways to measure success: wins and losses of course, but also how a team or a program improves and grows…and works to rebuild when needed. “
Football

The football team finished with a 13-0 record and advanced to the Division Six state championship. The Hawks team was highlighted by senior captains Owen Nanartowich, Jake Attaway, Garrett Giorgio, Joey Edie, Cam Yates, and Logan Luz.
The team beat East Bridgewater, Sandwich, and Norwell to advance to the state championship game where they defeated Fairhaven 21-14 to bring home a state title since 1991.
After a flawless season, seniors hope for the best next year.
“I want a successful season, make playoffs, I think we can win states again,” said Owen Nanartowich describing the program moving forward.
“I hope the team can continue to be a high energy team and give everyone good competition,“explained Brandon Figuerido.
The team’s chemistry played a major role in the Hawks successful season.
“We’re like a family, everyone cares about each other and we all bonded by hanging out with each other outside of football like team dinners and we can all communicate about football with no problems,” said Owen Nanartowich.
“The team’s chemistry has been a strong suit of our team, everyone works as a team and during practices we keep the energy up to make sure everyone’s ready for the game,” explained Brandon Figuerido.
Cheer

Cheer has had a good season with cheering on the football games, their competitions and making it throughout their season.
Cheer’s captains are junior Sofia Martins and seniors Kaylee Tryba, and Liv Sullivan and they found this year very successful.
The cheer captains made sure to give it their all and, most importantly, to get the kids in the program excited to go and give it their all throughout the whole season.
“I want them to want to go to cheer, I want them to participate, I want them to want to compete. I don’t want it to feel like they have to, I don’t want them to excite themselves and have their expectations raised and disappoint them,” stated Martins.
But not only did the cheer captains do their best but the cheer team also made this year one to remember by stepping away from the field like they usually do for senior nights and made it more memorable and emotional for the seniors on the team that are soon leaving, easily making this one of their highlights of the season.
“I liked senior night because of all the things my friends did for me and the speeches they did. It was a fun game but It was also sad since it was showing all of us that are graduating,” said Sullivan.
Martins doesn’t want people to think cheer is only for certain people but for all who want to be part of the community and grow as a cheerleader.
“People don’t do cheer because they think it’s a toxic environment and its not and it’s literally the opposite its very supportive and anyone can make it through cheer, especially if your a 8th grader and you slowly grow till your a senior you will definitely see growth in like every aspect emotionally, mentally, and physically.” Stated Martins
Dance

Senior captains Emily Haley and Lily Starner led the dance team. Dance participated in competitions but also danced and cheered during the football games and even performed alongside the cheer team at the Gillette game.
With this season they attended 3 comps and were invited to 2 invitationals but unfortunately did not make it to states.
With this year they tried pom, and it being new to the dancers they had to get used to it, and them having one of the biggest outcomes in the teams that they have had in the program they have found a lot of success with the results of this dance season.
“Pom is really new this year and I was really proud of my team and myself cause we had to learn a whole new style but also our coaches had to teach a whole new style so it was fun and exciting to learn no techniques,” stated Starner.
And with the growing team Starner has good hopes for the future. “We had, had one of the biggest teams this year and last year but I hope it gets even bigger and I hope that they do better and better,” stated Starner.
Although they did not make it states they still were able to push through and make a good season out of it.
At the end of the day, they did not care for where they placed but how they felt after competing.
“I’m proud of the people in the team and they really did put in effort and I always tell them it doesn’t matter the score as long as you’re proud of your performance then it’s fine,” said Starner.
Cross Country

A small but connected group, with only two girls on the team. Cross country had a record of 6-1, showing their determination and strengths. With the great season, some people were recognized by their great work Jason Blake, Oliver Mello, and Andrew Klinedinst were league all stars and Julia Klinedinst was a league all star.
The boys made all the way to states, while the girls ran well at the states qualifiers but did not make it. Oliver Melo set a new school record for his course. The small group had a good connection together, both the girls and boys always had fun together, and supported each other before and after all races. They also bonded together during workouts and at team dinners before states.
Marina shared her favorite moment with the team, “My last race on the home course at Senior Night and celebrating before with everyone.”
Field Hockey

The field hockey team wrapped up their season with a solid record of 8-6-4 and celebrated their hard work by winning the Sportsmanship Award.
Their bond as a team was a key highlight throughout the fall. Junior Rylie Nelson reflected on her favorite moments, saying, “My favorite moment was probably the bus rides back after we won. We were really close this season, and it helped us a lot when we were playing in games.” Looking ahead, she hopes “To improve and make good memories with the team.”
Senior Janie Brunelle shared a standout moment of the season: “Our game away at Lunenburg was my favorite. We were down multiple starting players. That night, we all worked our absolute hardest. Seeing everyone so happy at the end after we worked so hard was definitely my favorite moment.”
Brunelle also talked about the team’s strong bond, saying, “This team is really small, and we all become a family during the season. We know how to laugh and have fun off the field but are always trustworthy and prepared on the field.”
Golf

The golf team had a solid season, finishing with an 8-8 record. Juniors Anthony Moura and Will Sawyer, who earned all-star honors, while senior Ben Hillis was recognized as an academic all-star. Other key seniors Braeden Murphy, and Jack Delgizzi also helped the team achieve success this year.
Reflecting on the season, junior Anthony Moura shared, “I just started playing golf last year as a sophomore, and winning all-star during my second year felt pretty good. I think we’ll be good next year, and I hope we have a good run in the playoffs. Our team was strong, and we only lost three seniors.”
Moura talked about the close bond among teammates explaining “Our team chemistry was probably the best compared to any other sport because we have a lot of juniors, and we all hang out outside of golf.”
Teammate Will Sawyer said similar things, “The team’s chemistry was special. We spent a lot of time outside of golf together, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys.”
Looking ahead, Sawyer is optimistic about the future, saying, “I hope we can advance further in the playoffs next season, and I also hope we can get more people to play after losing some of our seniors.”
With a strong group of returning juniors, the golf team is poised for an exciting 2025 season.
Girls Soccer

The girls varsity soccer had a good 2024 season, having a record of 14-6. With good wins like beating Marlboro 8-0 at their senior night, beating their rivals North Middlesex twice both being tough games, and also qualifying for the state tournament.
They qualified for playoffs, seeded 23, they won their first game but got defeated in the round of 32. They went that far because they have really strong players, 4 of them winning all star and one winning all state.
Senior and captain Maddie, shared her experience with the team. “Our chemistry was extremely strong, and we are all best friends. We started the season already bonded, but we also became closer as we continued doing fun activities and hanging out every day. Our team chemistry was the reason why we did as well as we did this season.”
Boys Soccer

Boys soccer had a solid record of 6-8-2, just two games away from being into playoffs, they fought until the second to last game where they fell against AMSA at their home, being officially disqualified.
The team had six seniors this year, playing and being connected to the rest of the team, those include Nicholas Giorgio Woodford, Guilherme Martins, Luiz Otavio Correa, Rafa Melvin, Danny, Leonardo Cunha. And they were all led by the captains Nicholas, Thomas, and Melvin.
The season had many highlights, including the win over North Middlesex, where they beat them 3-2 at home, making them confident and showing their strengths. There was also Senior night where the team had a lot of fun celebrating the seniors last few steps.
The team has much diversity between the players, and senior captain Nico described the feeling of being in a multicultural team “I would describe the team’s chemistry as cultural because we come from many backgrounds but still found ways to connect and embrace each other’s cultures and backgrounds. We are a very mixed team that come from different places but bonded over our love for the sport.”
The last game was a good highlight because even though the win didn’t come, they left everything we could and said bye to the season. With sadness because it was over, but happiness because it happened.
Even though the boys did not qualify for playoffs, the team received some individual awards, that were the 6 all stars that the team gained, Nicholas GiorgiWoodford, Melvin Alfaro Garcia, Daniel Subilosky, Thomas Downin, Henri Sa, and Maxwell Woods as the academic all star. The team also got one all states with Nico award.
Volleyball

Led by their senior captain Olivia Scafidi, the volleyball team ended their season with a record of 9-10.
Fielded by nine seniors the team made it to their second game in the playoffs they ended their season with many accomplishments and was top in their league.
“Everyone had really high status and everyone was the leader of the league. I think we could have done better but it was a super fun year to grow as a team and we showed what it was like to go from a hard beginning of the season because we were playing too many hard teams to winning more,” said Scafidi.
It was a tough year with them always going up against good schools and having last year’s team being really good, but they didn’t let that stop them and they did not disappoint.
“This year it was so hard to fall after Addison and Lauren,” said Scafidi.
The team had to overcome many difficult moments this year but they were able to push through. Senior night and the team bond being one of their highlights.
“Everyone was friends on the court and off the court and everyone hung out outside of it,” stated Scafidi.
This year Scafidi had to prove herself and really step up to the position in leading the team by herself, and she did not let them down.
“I worked a lot harder than I have in the past years because being a captain you have to learn your players and so I didn’t take the time last year to know every single one in the program, but this year I knew everyone’s name and everyone in the program, I knew what potions they played and how they felt.” said Scafidi
