With Midterms just beginning and the freezing weather that greets us every morning, it is easy to get overwhelmed with studying and preparing. In light of this, here are five things you can do to destress during Midterms:
- Eat balanced meals each day. As stressful as this time may be, fueling your body to give it the energy it needs is essential.
- Rest. Whether that means a night of self-care or a nap after school, this time can be tiring, and taking care of yourself is important; you can’t pour from an empty cup.
- Take breaks. Don’t spend an excessive amount of time studying before you relax. Work in time blocks to give yourself a break every once in a while. There are many apps or videos on YouTube that can offer mindfulness exercises and meditations.
- Socialize. Spend time with your friends and family if you can, since Midterms can be isolating. Go for a winter walk or coffee.
- Don’t be hard on yourself. According to Psychology Today, we tend to be harder on ourselves than we are on friends. There is a lot of pressure to do well on Midterms, but remember that you are working hard and the outcome doesn’t define you.
