Usually we hear seniors saying, “I can’t wait to get out of high school” and “I hate high school, I just want to be in college already,” but when I interviewed five seniors about their high school experiences, they had nothing but good memories to share. Now that it is their time to leave, these seniors realize that high school is not as bad as they thought that it was and that looking back on it, they are really going to miss it.
Brian Fahey:
Q: What is your favorite high school memory?
A: Going to Aspen with the hockey team. It was a fun experience, and a lot of funny things happened. Every player on our team roomed with a kid from Aspen. It was kind of like we were exchange students, but we were only there to play hockey. It was a different and fun experience that we all shared, and we all bonded and made good memories together.
Q: What are you going to miss most about high school?
A: My friends and just hanging out and hockey. I don’t think I’m going to be playing hockey in college, and when we go off to college we aren’t going to be with all of our friends and there’s not much just sitting around playing video games. There’s a lot more to do, but I think I’ll miss just hanging out with all of my friends. And I’m going to miss being on a team and having friends on the team and just not having a sport to play in the winter; it’ll be weird getting used to.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
A: Getting away from my brother Tom. I think it will be good to get away from each other and to live in a room without each other for once. And, I’m looking forward to learning new things that make it possible for me to get a good job and make bank.
Paige Laflamme:
Q: What is your favorite high school memory?
A: Going to nationals for cheerleading in Disney. It was cool that we made it that far and that I got to be with all of my friends. Just being able to say that we all competed in Florida at Disney is something that I will always remember from high school. And prom I’ll always remember. I loved everything about it, the dress searching, getting all fancy and the dancing. It was all so much fun, and I’ll never forget it.
Q: What are you going to miss most about high school?
A: I’ll miss all of my friends just because we have all gotten so much closer over the years. And even my friends that I’m not as close with. I’m going to miss seeing everyone every day. And, I’ll miss my mom, too. She cooks for me and does my laundry for me; I’m not ready to be doing that by myself!
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
A: Rooming with some of my friends! There are a couple of us talking about going to the same school, Merrimack, because the school has all of our majors and if we all get accepted and end up going there we decided we want to all room with one another. That would be so much fun, and then we wouldn’t have to miss each other. So it works out perfectly!
Kaitlin Manning:
Q: What is your favorite high school memory?
A: Meeting all of my closest friends and hanging out with them for the past four years. We always love to go out to dinner for each of our birthdays, and we always have fun talking and just being around each other. That’s something I’ll always remember and love that we did.
Q: What are you going to miss most about high school?
A: I’ll miss everything like my friends, proms, the fun school events that we have and just being able to go home to my house every day and feeling at home. Next year is going to be weird because it’s like I’m not going to go home after classes. I’ll go to my dorm, and I won’t really feel at home until I go back on breaks.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
A: The parties, new faces, making new friends and new experiences. College life is so different like schedule wise and not every night is a school night. So that makes me anxious to get used to a schedule like that instead of going to school and having all 5 nights during the week be a school night and just having weekends. I won’t have classes every day, and I’ll be able to do more.
Tim Murphy:
Q: What is your favorite high school memory?
A: Winning districts for hockey. Winning is what it’s all about. That was probably one of the best feelings after we won because we were the first team in a long time to actually do it. It’s something that I’ll remember forever, and I love that I can leave high school having accomplished that with my team.
Q: What are you going to miss most about high school?
A: Easy homework. I get homework, but not a lot, and in college I’ll get so much more. I like that I don’t get a lot because it’s easy, and I pass without having to spend hours doing work.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
A: Having fun and living on my own. I’ll have a lot more freedom. I can stay out with no curfew and just go where I want without having to ask. I won’t get grounded or anything. I’ll be on my own with no rules from my parents. It’s sick!
Nicole Fowler:
Q: What is your favorite high school memory?
A: Playing in my first soccer game here. I was new in school and to the team. We were playing our rivals, Marlborough Panthers, and my teammate Courtney crossed it from the right side of the field, and I kicked it in to the net and scored. It made me feel like the next two years here were going to be great!
Q: What are you going to miss most about high school?
A: Being around the same people. I’m so used to seeing all of my friends every day and all of the familiar faces. It’s going to be different in college when I’m just starting out because there will be no familiar faces and I won’t be with my friends.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
A: A new beginning. I can’t wait to make new friends and meet new people and just be in a whole different environment than I am in now. It’ll be an easy adjustment because I am outgoing, and I love meeting new people. That is why I’m so excited and definitely ready to go on to college!
