Ninth grade English teacher Elizabeth Albota did not always know what she wanted to do in her life.
“ I started off in marketing,” she says. “ It was boring. Figuring out how to make people buy overpriced textbooks was just not a very exciting way to spend my time.”
Albota realized marketing was not even close to what she wanted to do.
“Teachers really made a difference in my life,” she says. “I want to make a difference in kids’ lives too.”
Albota loves how she has the opportunity to do that.
“I make a difference by showing them how to think for themselves and giving them the space, security, and freedom to try it out.”
Albota has a passion for English and and teaching students to speak their mind and give their opinion.
“I love teaching ninth grade.” she says. ”For many students, it’s the first time they’ve read and interacted with complicated, adult-level ideas and literature.”
Albota loves teaching students classic literature and helping them to pick good books for themselves in reading/writing workshop.
She faces challenges every day as a teacher. “I think the same that every teacher faces,” she says, “which basically boil down to making sure I reach all my students as well as challenge everyone.”
Albota has had a lot of fun at Hudson High in the past ten years.
