Freshman quarterback Chris LaFlamme ran for two touchdowns and had two throws of twenty-five plus yards in the freshman team’s 12-6 nail biting win over Westborough. “It was good that we won,” LaFlamme said, “but we should have killed such a bad team like them.”
Although Hudson won the game by only six points, they had many opportunities to score. “We should have done a better job of executing,” LaFlamme said, “on the opportunities Westborough gave us when they turned the ball over that frequently.” Westborough had 5 total turnovers in the game.
With Westborough giving the ball up so frequently, that gave Hudson many opportunities to score. “I had two rushing touchdowns,” LaFlamme said. “We possibly could have doubled our score on two long passes, but they were dropped.”
Even with Westborough playing as badly as they did, their defense kept them in the game, and they got one last chance to win the game with 45 seconds left. “After Westborough converted what was about a 35-yard pass, they took a chance on first down at the end zone, and I picked it off to end their chances at pulling off a last second touchdown,” LaFlamme said. “I had never done that before, so it was really awesome.”
In Hudson’s close win, they didn’t play perfect either. There were some errors that gave Westborough the ball on crucial possessions. “Even though we won I as well as the team could have played better,” LaFlamme said. “I need to improve my handoffs and passing accuracy. I also need to cut down on mental errors (not knowing where the running back is, forgetting plays, etc.).”
“Leading up to Nipmuc I will work on my handoffs and keep upgrading my accuracy (which improves on a week-by-week basis) and be calm when I’m back at quarterback,” LaFlamme said. “Going into this week and getting ready for Nipmuc, I feel confident. I feel like the team is ready, and we can come out with a win. We are a good team, so I definitely think we can play our best and go 3-1. Varsity and JV struggled with them, but our set of kids has had success against Nipmuc in the past,” LaFlamme said.
Overall for the season LaFlamme wants “the team to not only win, but I want the team to grow stronger and become more of a family for the next four years.”
“This is a young freshman team that is showing that they could be one of the best teams in awhile. As we get older we can be the next Super Bowl contenders like our class of 2012 football team that just graduated. Maybe even better.”
