A score of 35.5 out of 40 doesn’t come often, but Emma Lambert made it possible with her hard work and motivation.
Q: Who got you into gymnastics?
A: My mom signed me up for classes at Diamond Gymnastics when I was three.
Q: What is your favorite event?
A: Vault because I’m not afraid to try new skills.
Q: Why did you choose to compete for high school just for your senior year?
A: The gym that I was competing at closed over the summer, so I had to stop USA gymnastics. I decided to compete for the high school.
Q: How come you never did both?
A: High school gymnastics is a big commitment, and I loved USA gymnastics so I didn’t want to quit USA for high school.
Q: Do you like high school better now?
A: I miss my club team because I have competed with those girls since I was young, but high school is fun, too.
Q: What goes through your mind when you are competing?
A: Concentrating on each move. Gymnastics is tough because you can get distracted by other things. You have to focus on what you’re doing because you can get hurt.
Q: When you got a 9.5 on vault, what was your reaction, and how did you feel?
A: I dropped my water bottle; I was so surprised. I have never gotten a score so high on vault, so it was exciting.
