Senior starting running back/linebacker Jesse Nemerowicz verbally announced his commitment to Bryant University in July. He is receiving a 95% scholarship. The star football player has been starting on varsity as a linebacker since his freshman year.
Nemerowicz and Head Coach Dan McAnespie both agreed that Bryant was a good fit for him.
He received a lot of attention from colleges throughout his junior year. “I was kind of shocked going into the season with the amount of attention I got. I didn’t really know how good I could be. I realized when people started talking to me with phone calls over the summer that I could maybe one day play at a high collegiate level,” said Nemerowicz.
Nemerowicz started receiving calls from smaller Division 3 schools, and they gradually built up to Division 1 colleges. “I was in touch with ten schools. I had 15-20 on my radar, and I eventually narrowed it down to Bryant.”
Nemerowicz got himself recognized through recruiting sites, college showcases, and personal workouts. “Probably the most important tool in getting him noticed was the highlight tape we made using Hudson’s HUDL program,” said Carey Nemerowicz, Jesse’s father.
One showcase that Jesse attended was the New England Elite Camp held at Bentley University. There were 1,000 student athletes being watched by 400 college coaches from each level. “At the end kids and coaches were coming up to me shaking my hand telling me I was something special. That was surreal,” said Jesse.
“I’m very excited to go to Bryant, and from what I’ve gathered of the school already, I would say that being a [Bryant] Bulldog mostly means that with hard work and dedication, I can reach my goals both on and off the field,” said Jesse.
Jesse discussed his college options with his parents and McAnespie. “[Bryant] was the first to offer to Jesse. We knew it was a good school fit for him. Why not say yes,” said McAnespie.
Carey believes that his son will succeed at a Division 1 level. “Jesse has an incredible work ethic. He is dedicated, and win or lose he will move on and work really hard to improve. He is also a leader. He responds quickly to each play and has good on-field vision. He watches his games on HUDL to use what he sees to make improvements. He is also a good student. He studies hard and works hard to balance school and sports so that he can be really successful in both areas.”
McAnespie and Carey knew that Jesse had a special talent since his freshman year. “When he started playing youth football, we could see that he was good, but during his freshman year was when we really noticed his potential. Coach [McAnespie] recognized this potential early on and offered him the opportunity to start for varsity and as a freshman,” said Carey.
Jesse believes that Bryant will help him to fulfill his potential both on and off the field.
