With their league title on the line, the Hawk softball team faced Nashoba on Monday night. They played before an eager crowd of nearly 100 fans and eventually fell 6-4 to Nashoba.
Haley Gaffney acquired two RBIs in the loss while Maddie Haufe held down the fort in right field. Two long fly ball put-outs, by Haufe, in the middle innings of the game kept Hudson in the contest. Haufe also drove a ball of her own to the outfield wall, that time dropping a line drive in for a double.
But Hudson was unable to maintain their early 2-0 lead just as they were unable to pull out a comeback when down two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Hawks missed their chance at winning their league outright. But thanks to a host of league victories earlier this month, they head into the playoffs with the second overall spot in the Midland League B.
