Music is now available at the touch your fingertips, so finding affordable ways to listen to our favorite songs has become the mission for many teenagers. Among Spotify, Pandora, and IHeartRadio, Grooveshark has become a popular new contender for streaming free music. Grooveshark is a free way to listen and upload music. Using a search bar, users can discover work from popular artists, albums, or a huge variety of songs. Users can create playlists, favorite songs, upload, and share their music for free with very limited advertising interruptions. An account isn’t necessary for using Grooveshark, but having one allows members to save their favorite songs, making them even easier to access. Grooveshark is available wherever there is an internet connection, and works on smart phones, desktops, and other mobile devices.
So what makes Grooveshark so good?
Senior Brian Carter prefers Grooveshark because of its easiness to use and very few advertisements. “With Pandora, unless I pay for the full version, there are constantly ads after five or six songs. Grooveshark has one and usually after the first song, and that’s it,” Carter says. “I also really like that I can choose to listen to specific songs instead of a radio station, which gives you a variety of music.”
Junior Jeanne Debraga favors the website because it is so individualized. “Making a playlist is really easy, and it’s always the songs I want to listen to,” she says. “When I use some of the other apps to listen to music, I usually don’t hear the song I’m looking for. But, with Grooveshark, I can find the song right away. The website also has a lot of songs on it, so almost everything I search for comes up.”
Junior Sam Engvall recommends using the site for exploring new genres of music. “There’s such a wide variety of music to discover,” Engvall says. “I am always listening to something new. It’s a great way to discover and keep track of songs. People who are interested in music should definitely check it out.”
