HUDSON- Hudson High’s partnership with Worcester State University has expanded this year to include an Introduction to Business course co-taught with business teacher Kristopher Langan and professor Elvis Lopez.
The Early College program at HHS began as a way to give students access to real college experiences while still in high school.
According to school counselor Kerry Bartlett, Worcester State has been the best fit for Hudson’s Early College initiative, and both schools are committed to growing the partnership and creating more opportunities for students in the future.
The program isn’t focused only on business, and it continues to respond to student interest. Last spring, Hudson High offered Introduction to Psychology as its Early College option.
The Hudson Early College Program began in the Spring of 2024 and Hudson High continues to offer additional opportunities as the program grows. The long term goal is for students who participate in the Hudson Early College program to earn 12 college credits before graduating from Hudson High School in addition to building skills and confidence to be successful after graduation.
Mr. Langan, who teaches the Introduction to Business class, said the experience has been eye-opening for students.
“Many were unprepared,” Langan admitted, calling the course a “reality check.” He explained that the class is run like a real college course, with regular quizzes and the expectation that students take notes daily.
By continuing to expand offerings like this, Hudson High hopes to prepare more students for the rigors of college and give them a head start on earning credits before they graduate.
