Valentine’s Day has just passed, so I asked students about their best, their worst and their funniest Valentine’s Day moments.
“I got into a car accident.” – Senior Steven Teabo
“In 4th grade, a third grade boy left a heart-shaped note on my locker, and I got upset because I didn’t know who it was.” – Sophomore Caitlin McGowan
“My mom is always my Valentine.” – Junior Leanne Matthews
“Watching a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with each other.” – Senior Mike Goodwin/ Senior Cody Pieres/ Senior Shane Polomarenko
“Once I ate too much chocolate on Valentine’s Day, and I threw up.” – Sophomore Sydney Mountzouris
“I made a mess with a chocolate fountain and got chocolate all over my face.” – Senior Johnny Melo
“I had a bad day and I got home, opened the fridge and my dad ordered a box of chocolate covered strawberries for me.” – Junior Alicia Ptak
“My friend was my valentine, and she got me flowers but squished them on the way to school. She still gave them to me though.” – Eighth grader Sydney Myette
“I cried at my grandma’s valentine’s day party when I was five.” – Junior Dan Kallin
“I put a love note in a girl’s locker in eighth grade.” – Sophomore Tim Maye
Who would win the Grammy for record of the year if students at our school picked the winner? The nominees were Lonely Boy by The Black Keys, Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson, We Are Young by Fun. featuring Janelle Monáe, Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra, Thinkin’ Bout You by Frank Ocean, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye stole all the votes and won record of the year. Before any of the results were revealed, I asked students who they thought would win record of the year.
“Somebody That I Used to Know because it is new and hip.” – Sophomore Bruno Olivera
“Frank Ocean because he has the voice of an angel.” – Senior Erika Civitarese
“Black Keys because they play instruments and no one else does.” – Senior Tessa Dinnie/ Junior Jeremy Saunders
“We Are Young because it is new and fresh; it inspires greatness.” – Freshman Brian Matthews
“We Are Never Getting Back Together because she is famous, and a lot of my friends own her CD.” – Sophomore Rachel MacMunn
