High Flying Hawk
This week’s High Flying Hawk is senior Michael Santos, captain of the varsity soccer team. Santos is entering his fourth and final season as a Hawk and is hoping to go deep into the playoffs. “We have great young talent. I feel we can play at a high level against any team.”
“I feel like I played pretty well last game. As a defender, you know you’ve done your job when the other team is taking few shots on net, and making 0-1 goals,” Santos said. “My favorite part of the game was probably when I stopped a breakaway goal that would’ve put our goalie in a very bad position.”
“This is my first year playing defender,” Santos said. “I used to be a goalie, but the switch came because we had two younger goalies and were short a defender so my coach tried me out at defender, and I played well so he kept me there,” Santos said.
This is Santos’s last season as a Hudson Hawk, and he’s going out on a great note. “Going into my last season, I was chosen to be captain of the varsity soccer team,” Santos said. “It feels awesome being a captain. All the young guys look up to you as a leader, so it feels really cool to cap off my senior year as the captain.”
The team is very talented this year. “I think it’s very possible for us to make districts and go deep into districts,” said Santos. “I believe our team can compete with any other.”
They are a young team. “We have a lot of returning varsity players from last year, but our team is mainly made up of juniors and seniors. We have a couple of sophomores and a freshman that start, so I think we are a young team but with loads of talent.”
With a 7-3 record, the team is gunning for a title.
