In my weekly feature, “High Flying Hawk,” I will be writing about the best male athlete of the week. This week I chose eighth grader J.T Macdonald.
“I’ve been playing for 6 years and have never got an award like this,” Macdonald said, “so it’s really cool to win this award.”
Macdonald had an amazing game in Hudson’s nail biting 22-20 win over Gardner. “I feel like I played really well,” Macdonald said. “I mean, we won so I must’ve done well.”
Although Hudson won, Macdonald believes that there’s always room for improvement. “I feel like I could’ve covered better. I didn’t let any big plays behind me,” Macdonald said, “but I definitely could’ve covered better. I made a couple big tackles down the sideline that prevented a long touchdown.”
Macdonald had at least 5 good hits in the game, “hits that kept Gardner from scoring,” Macdonald said. “One of those hits was on a key player.”
“When I took out #89, that was pretty awesome,” Macdonald said. “I flipped him over, and he was hurt for the rest of the game. Number eighty-nine was their big wide receiver, so basically I took out one of their big time players.”
“I feel like I played good,” Macdonald said, “but like I said there’s always room to improve. I didn’t make many mistakes, so that’s always good.” Going into this week’s practices, he feels his team is ready.
“We have had a good week of practice,” Macdonald said. “I feel ready for our next game. I think we can take Westborough. The freshmen said the team they played were easy, so I definitely think we got this game this week.”
“Ultimately, my goal is to win,” Macdonald said. “Individually, I really don’t have any goals. My main focus is to just win the game.”
