Hi my name is Adam Aucoin, and this semester I am going to be writing a game recap on a sports game I cover each week.
The Hudson boys varsity soccer team took their talents to Morgan Bowl to take on the North Middlesex Patriots, Thursday, September 13. The Hawks beat N. Middlesex soundly with a 6-1 victory.
The Hawks kept control of the ball for most of the start of the first half. They got a good scoring chance early when senior captain Tom Orsatti converged to the net, but his shot was stopped by the N. Middlesex goaltender. The Hawks would get many shots on goal early and made it clear that they were in control of the game. The Hawks communication was much better than that of the other teams. You could hear them talking to each other and helping each other out, while the other team was silent when they had the ball.
Hudson got on the board early when sophomore Lucas Medeiros made a run down the sidelines and put a shot past the goalie. The Hawks didn’t stop there though. They kept their foot on the gas and kept coming at the opponents continuing to control the ball. They would get their second goal on a Tom Orsatti penalty kick to make the game 2-0. Orsatti would then follow that up with another goal a few minutes later to make the game 3-0.
Finally the N. Middlesex started to make some progress in the Hudson end, but they weren’t able to get any shots past Hudson goalie Ryan Lyman. The Hawks just seemed to have their opponents rattled the whole half.
“I think we were successful because we moved the ball very well today,” senior captain Mike Santos said. “We struggle when we play fast paced kick and run, but today we were able to slow down, use the whole field and get everyone involved.”
The Hawks would finish off the first half in a great way with a goal by freshman Mikey Conley and the hat trick goal for Tom Orsatti, which made it 5-0 at the half.
“It was really a team effort,” Santos said. “We wouldn’t have been successful if everyone didn’t do their part. Though we obviously had a big game from Tom Orsatti recording a hat trick.”
The second half was more of the same, but had a much more defensive feel to it. The Hawks were able to get great play on defense from Santos, junior Kyle Roach and many others, as they stopped many scoring opportunities for the Patriots.
There were a few scoring chances for the Hawks, but only a nice move by junior Brandyn Greeno was able to net the Hawks another goal. North Middlesex would answer with a goal, but it was too little too late. The Hawks were in control, and they went on to win 6-1.
Senior Nic Conley said, “I think we played as a team, worked our outsides well, had solid passing and finished well.”
Santos summed up the game pretty well saying, “All of our goals came when we were able to string a few passes together, and it really looks good when it all works out. If we keep playing like this, we should have a really good season.”
