Meet Shane McArdle, a new addition to HHS’s English Department. The Milbury native has been teaching for thirteen years. In this interview he reveals some of his favorites, from teaching moments to foods.
Where were you before Hudson High?
Shane McArdle: I moved here from Denver, Colorado, in the summer, teaching in Denver Public Schools. I moved there in 2006 from Cambridge, where I was living at the time. Before that I was teaching at a school up in Vermont for students with pretty severe emotional and behavioral issues, and prior to that I was teaching at a medium security correctional facility.
Now let’s talk about some of your favorite things.
What’s your favorite color?
Shane McArdle: I’m not easily stumped, but that, I just don’t know. I like hunter green.
What’s your favorite food?
Shane McArdle: Really fresh sushi. Don’t even kill the fish. Just let me take a bite out of it as it swims by. I like it that fresh.
What’s your favorite sport?
Shane McArdle: Hockey. I played in high school. I played a week ago in a charity game for Hope Lodge at Holy Cross. I’ve skated my whole life.
What’s your best memory as a teacher?
Shane McArdle: I don’t really have one. In terms of a single best memory, you know I have a lot of moments. A little while ago a former student reached out to me to say that partly because of me, she finds herself kind of frustrated at how people speak. She said she wants to just correct them, so she does. She said that people find that annoying, and so she credits me with making her annoying, and I consider that an accomplishment.
