In January, the Big Red entered the Greater Boston High School Journalism Competition. At the beginning of March, journalism advisor Amy Vessels was informed that the paper had won an award, and members of the newspaper staff were invited to attend an awards ceremony at Suffolk University on March 10. Schools competed for awards in five different categories, three of which provided scholarships. The Big Red won the Excellence in Online Journalism award, competing against thirty-five other Massachusetts high schools. Senior Levi Maclean said, “We never thought that our small class could achieve such a prestigious award. I am so proud of us and Mrs. Vessels for creating this newspaper.” The award was very unexpected, although very appreciated.
