The Art Show held on May 3 was a neverending process for students wondering if they’d get all of their pieces done in time to be displayed for their fellow classmates, teachers and family members to admire.
Seniors Jessie Dubois and Jess Hebert have had their minds set on the sights of summer for a majority of the semester. Both of these AP Art students had a similar concentration with an outcome of completely different pieces.
Jess had a hard time defining her concentration, but overall she thought of it as the ocean. Not one piece is the same, but they all have a common medium. “I have this obsession with sand. I use it in almost all of my pieces.”
For one piece, she created a sandcastle; it was not yet completed, but she still hung it up on the wall. “People thought it was finished, but I just haven’t gotten to it yet.”
The amount of things needed to be completed by the end of the semester is somewhat overwhelming, and smaller projects will sometimes get pushed to the side.
Another thing she focuses on while constructing her artwork is sea creatures. She points to a painting of a washed-up seashell. “An animal once lived in that.”
As for Jessie Dubois her concentration for AP Art was a bit more concise, octopus and anchors.
But she featured many other pieces that weren’t related to her AP class. One of her unrelated pieces consisted of a black canvas with melted crayons hanging along the top of it.
“I just decided to glue the crayons on and then used a hairdryer to melt the crayons down the canvas.”
Another unique piece is a t-shirt on which she printed an anchor. Not only did she create the anchor, she came up with a clever saying to add to the shirt. “Chin up & we’ll drown a little slower.”
Being a senior presents you with the chance to display all of your work on your own wall. These girls took advantage of that opportunity to show their work, and they hoped their audience enjoyed the show.
