The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp
by Rick Yancey
Rating: 4/4
He was dumb, overweight and living with his uncle, eating TV dinners every night, but Alfred became the person to save the world. The bloodline of the knights lives on, and Alfred Kropp discovers there is more to him than an unwanted child when he is a part of his uncle’s get-rich-quick scheme. They are tricked into stealing the famous sword Excalibur by the sworn enemy of the knights, Mogart. He goes with the knights to find the sword, and along the way he discovers his purpose in life. Alfred gives his life to stop Mogart from destroying everything he knows and loves, and along the way, he finds out more about his past, changing his life forever.
The secret society that is known as the Knights of the Round Table had many secrets. No one knows that dangerous events are happening all around them, and the knights keep them safe. They were very much like the Secret Service protecting the president.
Alfred Kropp’s character was not very original. A lot of people are insulted and don’t feel that they are important. Alfred found something of his life that was of importance and was able to save the world. It was a nice plot twist for what readers usually see in these types of books, where someone good-looking and athletic is always going to be the hero.
When Alfred found out who is father was and why he had left his mother, it was the high point of the entire book. I don’t want to tell you who it was, but it completely changed everything about Alfred.
Readers who enjoy fiction and a good story would want to read this book. It had a very good plot and good characters.
