Sophomore students attended the Reality Fair on Wednesday, April 13. Business professionals from Hudson and surrounding towns ran booths for the students. Each student first visited the paymaster’s booth where they received a monthly salary. After they visited the paymaster’s booth the students needed to get their essentials, including a home, a car, and food. After the students received their essentials, they visited other booths for luxuries. The Reality Fair is a way for students to see what the future of credit and financial responsibility will be like.
Reality Fair organizer George Luoto said, “I hope it has been a worthwhile experience to help students see where their paycheck goes. And also help them choose a career that they can live off the salaries of.”
Many students love the experience. “I think this is fun, and I like how real places came here to do this for us students,” sophomore Steph Ogar said.
Others were not very pleased with the process. “I think it’s good for us to learn about how to spend money in the future, but the overall process of the fair was rushed because many of us are uninformed about what we need to survive and therefore go without basic needs and choose luxuries instead,” said sophomore Nate Otenti.
But everyone did love one aspect. Sophomore John Petris admitted, “I like all the free stuff.” Many businesses brought little trinkets printed with their logos.
Hudson High school Class of 2013 thanks the community for helping them be informed about their future.

I like this idea. It gives students a taste what it will be like to be on their own. Also I like that the businesses gave away free stuff.

I think this Reality Fair is a really good way to show students how hard adult life is. I am looking forward to this fair next year. I can’t wait to get my trinkets!

Good way of showing adult life to younger students, getting them ready for the real world.
